2000 Season Summary

Well another season in the life of our Bluewater Tug-of-War has passed and we can look back with satisfaction and pride at our achievements.

We started training a year ago in preparation for the World Championships in Blackpool England in Sept.2000, working continuosly throughout the winter and summer to get ready. Joined by some members of the South Easthope and Brantford teams we followed a rigorous training schedule. Trips to the U.S.A. as well as local competition were under taken with good success. The results of competitions and the World Championships are else where on our web page. At the World's the bravery of our pullers who continued to pull with injuries was further proof of the pride they take in wearing the Bluewater and Canada jerseys. This pride would not allow them to quit and shows me the character that our teams have. Thank you Jen, Lori, Sue, Matty, Blaine, Erich and the rest. The introduction of two of our youths to World Championship competition was something that I am very proud of. Both Jonathan and Brent gave performances that belies their tender years and gives us great inspiration for the future. Well done guys.

During the year many work projects were done to help finance our trip to England. The turn out and commitment to do this work as well as maintaining our training schedule was excellent. Though our teams have been inactive since the World Championships our club has not. We continue to plan ahead for the future and also look for new ways to grow. Showing what we have to offer to the youths in our community is one of our most important goals. Tug-of-War is a high performance sport that offers great competitions with a superior level of fitness. With commitment any competitor, male or female, can achieve the highest distinction of wearing their National jersey at World Competition and eventually in the Olympics. The sport also offers opportunity for those who wish to change sports as there is no age barrier to starting or to how long one can compete. This should not be interpreted as there being no level of skilles required, but that it can be learned and achieved. So come out and join us and we will make you a part of what we do quickly. It is with great anticipation and expectation that we can look forward to the future in the Bluewater club. I say this because I know the dedication of our members. We are an International Club and will continue to be one with each and everyone having a goal and willing to work to achieve it. Our greatest challenge ahead will be to find ways to finance our travel but I am sure that we will find ways to do this also.

Despite all the challenges we faced during the year we had lots of fun doing what we love to do. I would like to thank all our pullers, members, families, supporters and our community for the support and help you continue to give to us. A special thank you is due to Matt Metzger for the tremendous work he did in the organization of our trip to England (collecting money, booking rooms, booking flights etc.) and also in developing and maintaining this web page.

Seasonal Greetings to all the people involved in Tug-of-War in Canada and around the World.
